Naissance Cold Pressed Seabuckthorn Seed Oil · Oral capsules

"My eye doctor actually noticed the improvement before I told her I'd started anything."

Using for
Dry eye syndrome
Duration
14 weeks
Form used
2g oil daily in capsule

I've had chronic dry eye for about 6 years — mostly from screen work and wearing contacts 10+ hours a day. I was using preservative-free eye drops literally every 2 hours. My optometrist mentioned omega-7 supplementation and I landed on seabuckthorn after researching it here.

I took 2 grams of cold-pressed seed oil daily for 14 weeks. At my next eye appointment — before I mentioned the supplement — my optometrist commented that my tear film looked better and asked what I'd changed. I told her about the seabuckthorn. She seemed genuinely interested.

I'm now down to eye drops maybe 3x a day instead of constantly. Still wear contacts. Still on screens all day. The difference is meaningful for how my eyes feel by 6pm. I haven't stopped taking it.

Improved tear film Reduced eye drop frequency Less end-of-day eye fatigue

"Gut symptoms noticeably calmer — but the first two weeks were rough."

Using for
GERD, gut lining support
Duration
10 weeks
Form used
1.5g oil with meals

I started seabuckthorn oil hoping for help with my GERD and what my GI doctor describes as "mild gastric inflammation." I started at 1.5 grams per day, taken with meals.

The first two weeks: loose stools almost every day. I almost quit. The article on this site said to cut the dose in half and ramp up — I wish I'd read that before starting. Once I went down to 0.5g for two weeks and then gradually increased, the GI side effects disappeared.

By week 8 I noticed my after-meal burning sensation was less frequent. Not gone, but meaningfully reduced. My sleep improved because I wasn't waking up with reflux. I'm keeping this in my routine. Knocked one star because the initial side effect phase wasn't clearly warned on the product label.

Reduced acid reflux frequency Better sleep quality Initial digestive adjustment needed

"HDL up 8 points in 90 days. My cardiologist asked what I'd changed."

Using for
Cholesterol, heart health
Duration
90 days
Form used
2g daily oil capsule

Background: I'm 62, on a statin for high LDL. My HDL has been stubbornly low (42) for years despite exercise and diet changes. My cardiologist mentioned omega-7 as a potential support supplement and I researched it on this site.

I added 2 grams of seabuckthorn oil capsules daily for 90 days alongside my existing medication. I told my cardiologist before starting. At my 90-day lipid panel, HDL was at 50 — an 8-point increase. Triglycerides also dropped from 178 to 151.

I'm not attributing all of this to seabuckthorn — I also started a morning walk routine during this period. But my cardiologist was pleased and said to continue. For the first time in 6 years my HDL is above 50.

Leven Rose Pure Sea Buckthorn Oil · Topical

"Works for dry skin — not so much for oily/acne-prone. YMMV."

Using for
Acne scars, skin texture
Duration
6 weeks
Form used
Topical, diluted in squalane

I followed the site's advice — patch tested, diluted 1:5 in squalane, applied at night only. For the first 3 weeks, things seemed promising. My acne scars looked slightly less red.

Week 4 I broke out — a cluster of small bumps along my jawline that I don't normally get. I backed off to every other night. The bumps cleared, but so did my hope for this as a daily routine.

I think the palmitoleic acid story is real for dry skin — but my skin naturally produces plenty of oil. I'm going to try the seed oil version instead of the pulp oil and see if that's less comedogenic for me. Not giving up entirely, but managing expectations.

Weleda Sea Buckthorn Body Oil · Topical + Oral

"My eczema patches on my arms are 80% cleared. Four months in."

Using for
Eczema (atopic dermatitis)
Duration
16 weeks
Form used
Topical + 1g oral

I've had eczema on my forearms since I was a teenager. I've tried every prescription steroid cream, every moisturizer, every "natural" remedy that the internet recommends. Most do nothing. Seabuckthorn is the first thing in fifteen years that has made a visible dent.

I apply the Weleda body oil directly to dry eczema patches after a warm shower, and also take 1g of oral oil daily. By week 6, the patches started to smooth out. By month 3, two of the three recurring patches on my right forearm were essentially clear. The third is about 60% reduced.

I showed my dermatologist. She looked at the Yang et al. 1999 study I printed from the references on this site and said the evidence was "plausible, keep going." I'm not stopping.

2 of 3 eczema patches cleared No steroid cream needed in 8 weeks Dermatologist approved continuation

Aura Cacia Organic Seabuckthorn Carrier Oil · Juice form

"Not a magic pill — but the afternoon energy crash has definitely gotten better."

Using for
Energy, immune support
Duration
8 weeks
Form used
1oz juice mixed with apple juice

I started with seabuckthorn juice (1 oz diluted in apple juice each morning) after reading about the vitamin C and antioxidant content. I was primarily hoping for better immune resilience — I get every cold that comes through my office.

Immune results so far: I've had one cold in 8 weeks instead of the usual three. Could be coincidence, could be the vitamin C, could be seabuckthorn. Hard to know. What I did notice clearly was that the 2:30pm energy slump I've had for years is less severe. I'm more alert in the afternoon without changing my coffee intake.

Taste warning: diluted 1:3 with apple juice it's actually drinkable. Undiluted it's aggressively tart. The guide on this site warned me — listen to it.

Fewer colds (1 vs usual 3) Better afternoon energy Taste takes adjustment

Pai Skincare BioRegenerate Oil · Topical

"Allergic reaction on day 3. Not for everyone — patch test is non-negotiable."

Using for
Anti-aging, skin texture
Duration
3 days (discontinued)
Form used
Pre-diluted blend topical

I patch tested on my inner arm — no reaction in 48 hours. Applied to my face on night one, nothing. Night two, slight warmth. Night three, woke up with my cheeks noticeably red and itchy, small raised bumps across both cheeks.

I stopped immediately. The reaction cleared in about 36 hours with my usual barrier cream. I have known sensitivities to rosehip oil and I think the botanical combination in the Pai blend triggered a contact dermatitis response.

This is not a product quality issue — Pai is a reputable brand. My skin is just unusually reactive. I'm leaving this review because the articles on this site mention reaction risk but I think it deserves a real experience attached. The patch test advice here is absolutely right — and maybe 72 hours is smarter than 48 for sensitive skin types.

Contact dermatitis reaction Cleared in 36 hours post-discontinuation

"Nails stopped breaking. Hair feels thicker. Three months in."

Using for
Hair thickness, nail strength
Duration
12 weeks
Form used
2g oral capsules daily

Post-menopause, my hair and nails took a serious hit. My nails had been peeling and breaking constantly. My hair felt thin and brittle. I added seabuckthorn capsules (2g daily) as part of a broader approach that also included biotin.

By week 8, I noticed my nails weren't breaking at the tips as they usually do when I type. By week 10, my nail tech asked what I was doing differently — they're growing consistently and the peeling has stopped almost entirely.

Hair thickness is harder to measure but my ponytail is definitely fuller. My hair colorist mentioned it too. These could be coincidences but they line up too closely with starting seabuckthorn for me to dismiss them.

Nails stopped peeling and breaking Noticeably fuller ponytail Also taking biotin simultaneously

Plant Therapy Seabuckthorn · Oral capsule 2g daily

"Post-LASIK dry eye — not a cure, but genuinely the most helpful supplement I've found."

Using for
Post-LASIK chronic dry eye
Duration
20 weeks
Form used
2g oral daily

Had LASIK 7 years ago and have had chronic dry eye ever since. I've tried omega-3, flaxseed oil, cyclosporine eye drops, IPL therapy — the works. Seabuckthorn has been the most useful oral supplement I've added, though I want to be honest: it's a 6 out of 10 improvement, not a cure.

After 20 weeks, my eyes are comfortable until about 8pm most days instead of 3pm. That's real. My ophthalmologist says my corneal staining is reduced. I'll take that. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because my case is severe enough that nothing fully resolves it.

Comfortable eyes until 8pm (was 3pm) Reduced corneal staining Does not fully resolve severe post-LASIK DED
